I spent the spring and summer crossing the US. It started with Professor Moss at Cal Poly, in a small town called San Luis Obispo. His triggering model runs inside our liquefaction hazard engine; what he is to the company is harder to name. From there it kept going: the Bay Area, then the East Coast, Washington DC, Columbia, Boston. The conversations wandered: risk modelling and insurance, how the world prices uncertainty, the economics and culture of peoples. I went to talk about ground and came back thinking about everything built on it.
